Aruba is one of the few islands we keep coming back to again and again. There’s just something about it. The steady trade winds, the crystal clear water, the desert landscape, and the easygoing vibe make it a place we never seem to get tired of. Every time we visit, we end up discovering something new, even though we already have our favorite spots. Sure, you could spend an entire trip planted on the beach, and honestly that wouldn’t be a bad vacation. But if you really want to experience Aruba, it’s worth getting out and exploring the island a little.

Between boat tours along the coastline, off road adventures through the desert, colorful towns, bucket list experiences, and hidden snorkel spots, Aruba has a lot more to offer than just the resort strip. Below are some of our favorite things to do in Aruba. We’ve mixed in a few of the tours and experiences we love with several incredible places you can explore on your own for free.

Watch Sunrise at the California Lighthouse

One of our favorite simple experiences in Aruba is catching sunrise at the California Lighthouse.

Most people arrive later in the day, but if you show up early, before sunrise, you’ll likely have the area almost completely to yourself. The views stretch across the island’s desert landscape and out toward the Caribbean Sea. Stay until around 9 AM when the lighthouse opens and climb to the top. For about $5 admission, the panoramic views are incredible.

Sail Aruba’s Coast with the Jolly Pirates

One of the most fun days you can spend in Aruba is on the water with Jolly Pirates Aruba.

Their famous teak pirate schooners sail along the coastline with snorkeling stops, music, and plenty of time to relax on deck.

Their Sail, Snorkel, Swim and Swing cruise is the most popular option. This four-hour sailing adventure includes snorkeling at several locations including the famous SS Antilla Shipwreck, one of the largest shipwrecks in the Caribbean. Pricing is approximately $99. Snorkel gear, a BBQ lunch, and an open bar are included. And yes, you can swing off the pirate rope into the Caribbean.

If you want something more relaxed, their sunset sail is another great option and one of the best ways to end the day in Aruba. Pricing is approximately $59

We ended up meeting the best of friends on this boat and have visited each other several times in the United States.

Bucket List Moment: A Flying Dress Photoshoot in Aruba

If you’re looking for something truly unique to remember your time in Aruba, this experience is extra special. Our best friend Stacy owns Flying Dress Aruba, and we’ve watched her build an incredible company that focuses on more than just beautiful photos. The entire experience is designed to make women feel confident, empowered, and celebrated. From the moment you arrive, Stacy and her team take amazing care of their clients. They help you choose a stunning flowing satin dress, style the shoot, and guide you through the entire experience so you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. The dresses catch the Caribbean breeze while a professional photographer captures the moment, creating images that feel powerful, elegant, and unforgettable.

They offer several session options depending on the type of experience you want:

Take the Wheel on a UTV Adventure

Aruba’s north coast looks completely different from the resort side of the island. It’s rugged, dramatic, and full of places most visitors never see. One of the best ways to explore it is with De Palm Tours Aruba. Their Ultimate UTV Off Road Adventure puts you in the driver’s seat as you explore Aruba’s desert landscape and famous landmarks like the Baby Natural Bridge, Wariruri Beach, and the California Lighthouse.

If you’d rather sit back and enjoy the views, their Natural Pool and California Off-Road Safari takes you through Aruba’s rugged terrain to the famous Natural Pool hidden inside Arikok National Park. Pricing starting at $79

Snorkel at Tres Trapi

For an easy snorkel spot you can visit on your own, head to Tres Trapi Beach.

This small rocky cove is known for its calm water and frequent sea turtle sightings. Walk down the stone steps and you can often be snorkeling with colorful fish and turtles within minutes.

Early morning usually offers the best water conditions and visibility.

Visit the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins

Before Aruba became famous for its beaches, gold mining played a big role in the island’s history.

You can still see the remains at the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, where the old stone structures sit dramatically along the rugged north coast. It’s a quick stop but an interesting glimpse into Aruba’s past.

Explore the Colorful Streets of Oranjestad

Spend an afternoon wandering through Oranjestad, Aruba’s colorful capital. The pastel Dutch colonial buildings make this one of the most photogenic areas on the island. You’ll find plenty of small shops, local boutiques, and restaurants. It’s a great place to grab coffee, shop for souvenirs, and explore for a couple hours.

Discover Street Art in San Nicolas

At the southern end of the island, San Nicolas has become one of Aruba’s most creative neighborhoods. The streets are filled with large murals and colorful artwork created during the Aruba Art Fair, turning the town into an open air gallery. After exploring the murals, grab lunch at Rum Reef. The restaurant sits above the ocean with beautiful views and an infinity pool where you can cool off after walking around town.

Sunset at Alto Vista Chapel

For one of the most peaceful sunset spots on the island, visit Alto Vista Chapel.

This small yellow chapel sits quietly on a hill surrounded by desert landscape and ocean views. As the sun sets, the sky lights up around the chapel and the entire area becomes calm and quiet.

It might be one of the most serene places on the island.

Sunrise at the Red Anchor

Another quiet sunrise spot we love is the Red Anchor.

When we visited early one morning we literally had the entire place to ourselves. Watching the sun rise over the ocean with nothing but wind and waves around you is a pretty special way to start the day.

Climb the Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations

Aruba’s landscape surprises a lot of visitors. Instead of just palm trees and beaches, parts of the island look almost like a desert filled with giant boulders. The Ayo Rock Formations and Casibari Rock Formations are two great places to explore these formations and climb for views across the island.

Snorkel at Mangel Halto Beach

If you want a quieter beach away from the high rise resorts, head to Mangel Halto Beach.

This protected bay is known for excellent snorkeling, calm water, and mangrove trees that give the area a hidden, peaceful feel.

It’s one of our favorite spots when we want a slower, more relaxed beach day.

Aruba is one of those rare islands that keeps pulling you back. Every visit we find ourselves returning to our favorite places while discovering something new at the same time. One morning you’re watching the sunrise alone at the lighthouse, the next you’re snorkeling with sea turtles or sailing along the coast as the sun sets over the Caribbean.

Whether you fill your days with boat tours, off road adventures, and unforgettable experiences, or simply explore the island’s hidden beaches and quiet corners, Aruba has a way of turning simple moments into lifelong memories. That’s exactly why it’s one of the islands we keep coming back to.

If you’re planning a trip, save this list and mix a few of these experiences into your itinerary. Chances are Aruba might end up becoming one of those places you keep returning to as well. 🌴
